Character: Milla Maxwell
Canon: Post-Tales of Xillia 2
Age: 21
Background Information: Link!
Personality: Milla is someone who is devoted to her duties beyond all else. It is a noble attitude and one that makes her worthy of her position as someone who is responsible for protecting both humanity and spirit kind. She takes great pride in that duty and maintains the will to see it through at any cost. And she is equally confidant and self-assured of her ability to do so by whatever means necessary.
However there are times where she is blinded by that focus. That attitude as well as her unwavering confidence can sometimes result in additional trouble because she misjudged her capabilities in her single-minded determination to do what needed to be done. Experiences forced her to come to terms with her own limitations as well as rely on others when her own abilities were not enough. And as such she treats those mistakes as valuable lessons, to avoid making similar errors in judgment again.
Much of her knowledge of human life came from numerous books she poured over curiously in a desire to know and understand humans. What didn't come from those books, she picked up during her time traveling with her friends and companions. On a number of occasions when the other party members debate what animal is best, Milla's answer is that humans are her favorite, as opposed to the rest who are taking their place on either team cat or dog. But it well represents the space that she places between herself and humans. She cares for them deeply and feels a very strong obligation to serve and protect them. But as much as she treasures the time she is able to spend with them, in the end she comes to accept that her place is not among them. Her personal and emotional wants are cast aside for the sake of her duty to spirits and humans alike; maintaining the balance and safety of both.
Being not quite human there are social cues she misses from time to time. But she absorbs information quite well, being both eager to learn and quite intelligent. Despite her serious nature, there are still ways in which she enjoys having "fun". She has a weakness for human food and even enjoys teasing her companions from time to time. While she is not the best at expressing her emotional capacity, she would do anything in her power for those she cares about, as long as it doesn't directly interfere with her duties. She does not demand understanding, but she does command the respect for her decisions. In some regards she's certainly hard-headed and stubborn-- pushing herself to great lengths at risk to her human vessel. Over time and through her mistakes she does learn to heed the advice of others and try to be more open minded. But when it comes to her base principles and beliefs, if there's something she has her heart or mind set on, it's nearly impossible to consider changing it.
Her opinions and thoughts tend to air on the practical side of things, although she does have an appreciation for the finer things. But if choosing an outfit for herself, she will put functionality first before style.
Living among humans, it also becomes quickly evident that she's not accustomed to looking after herself. She has always had someone looking out for her, whether it was Ivar her Handmaid, the Four Great Spirits or Jude and the rest of her companions. She has developed past some of her spoiled tendencies, realizing quickly that she took a lot of the abilities granted to her by the spirits for granted when she suddenly needed to eat and couldn't wield a blade for herself. And she makes up for it, more than willing to learn and adapt to her situations.
Abilities & Inventory: Her combat skills and abilities are a combination of swordsmanship skills and elemental prowess-- although some aspects of the prior are aided by the latter. That includes the use of a device known as an Allium Orb, which allows for the extraction of spiritual elements to enhance a person's strength and abilities. It is an important accessory that helps keep people safe from the monsters that roam the streets outside of the major towns and cities.
Being the Lord of Spirits, she was blessed with the guidance of the Four Great Spirits of fire, water, earth and wind. Milla admits that Sylph, the Great Spirit of wind, guides her blade with it's power. Although losing the Four at one point required her to hone skills of her own, with them in her command again, it's not unlikely that she receives their aid. They assist in other areas as well, allowing her to do things like walk on water.
In battle she is able to switch between close combat skills and long-range elemental ones, although the latter tend to be slower, requiring a certain amount of focus to draw in mana from the spirits.
In combat she also has the ability to bind her enemies-- typically to allow those she's fighting with to take that advantage to attack them while they are vulnerable.
What she has with her at this time includes her sword and her Allium Orb.
Suitability & Plans: Milla gives up her place among humans to fulfill her duty, so there's a lot to explore with her in a setting where she can "dream" and her duty need not factor in.
That said, she's a very self-sufficient character, so being separated from those she's come to know and care for already will not deter her greatly. She has a great love for humans and people in general and will need little prompting to want to meet new people and explore new things. With that curiosity and her general need to be involved, she feels like a good, solid fit for this game.
